From just an idea, after decades of working in the Australian Music Industry, and understanding the logistical problems of delivering performances, nationally, a small group of dedicated individuals held ARC’s 1st meeting, in an art studio and silk screen printing warehouse, in Surry Hills, in 1981. The idea – to set up a public fund to support the Industry to present live performances, in difficult circumstances. Australian Rock Company was born – a vessel for the contemporary music industry, emulating Australian Opera, Theatre, Ballet and Dance Companies.
ARC was Incorporated as the first not-for-profit public company in the Australian Music Industry, (2.2.1984); registered as a charity and tax deductible gift recipient (28.10.1987); and now stars on the Commonwealth Government’s Register of Cultural Organisations (ROCO).
This site, and its sister AustraliaLive.org, aim to encourage communication between bands, fans and local promoters to run live shows, with original acts, in family friendly, child safe venues, across the country.
ARC is pleased to assist schools, community groups, local councils, general access venues and promoters, to stage performances, featuring original local and touring artists. Performances can easily couple with workshops and work experience opportunities.
This program allows local promoters – of all ages – to gain, or further, their experience in setting up, staging and promoting successful, family friendly, live events, and to assist artists to increase their audience and performance base.
ARC has been around since 1981 – 40 years and counting.
We plan to be here for many years to come to celebrate, promote and support Australian music into the future.
